Hummocks and cenote

All day. Includes lunch.

Hummocks are islands of exuberant tropical forest positioned whimfully within the savanna. The cause of this inventiveness of Nature is a big source of fresh water that pours this vital liquid in an area of 500 to 700 meters in diameter. The trees with a great variety of fruits, native to the region, offer food and protection to a great quantity of mammals, birds, reptiles and insects. Chicle (Manilcara zapota), Chaca (Bursera simaruba), Tulipán (Malvaviscus arboreus), Cedar (Ficus tecolutensis) Anona (Annona glabra) and Sabal (Sabal yapa), amongst others, can reach heights of 25 meters or more.

Hummocks are ecosystems that are found only in the youngest regions of the world, in Florida, Cuba and Yucatán. Its subsistence depends on the spring water and the balance between the contribution of the superficial freshwater and the intrusion of the underground salt water is uttermost fragile and delicate.
