In an effort for scientific discovery and to encourage the visitors and tourists interest on the closeness and appreciation of the environment, Eco Paraíso invites you to travel through the interpretive nature path and observe many of the astonishing examples of the coastal dunes flora and fauna.
We believe that this experience will allow you to feel more conscientious and responsible in order to support the conservation of the natural environment with which we share this planet.
This web page contains a map of the paths, common and scientific names of marked plants, and a brief description of their benefits and advantages.
Our path is divided in two defined areas, each representing different natural events and successions. The first part corresponds to the path named “Temible Chechem” designed to respect the old trail of Coconut Plantation. Its name refers to the Chechem’s plant abundance, with which we must have special care because its sap can produce rashes and burns. This trail illustrates local biological history. The old coconut plantation of Xixim was devastated by a plague of lethal yellowing disease transmitted by the annual cicada. In the natural recuperation process, the Chechem plant was one of the first to grow. As we travel through the succession, we will be able to observe the later establishment of the mangrove forest.
In the second entrance, named “Aguada Tauché” we will be able to see the great variety of vegetation found in the coastal dunes. Mangrove trees creep into the salt flats while various vines twirl upwards into the Chaká trees. This corridor provides a virtually pristine view of the native ecosystems surrounding Celestún.
We recommend you to wear shoes, sun protection, mosquito repellent, and to bring sufficient water.
