Hatching turtles "It’s sudden appearance on the beaches of Xixim"

A wonderful event occurred in this privileged land: thousand of baby turtles have been released to the green emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

In this season 240 Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) nests were registered on the beaches of the Special Biosphere Reserve Ría Celestun.

The work of relocation of endangered nest is in charge of PRONATURA YUCATAN A.C. Every year on the grounds of Xixim the most important nest relocation corral of the reserve is built.

This season, 19 nests were relocated in the corral to protect them from high tides, raccoons, dogs and even humans. From these 19 nests about 900 baby turtles could be rescued and released.

Our guests had the privilege of helping with this wonderful experience of releasing the hatchlings. An act, which every year gives us great satisfaction and assessment of the raison d’etre and philosophy that we share in our resort.
