List of birds sighted in the surroundings of Eco Paraíso

The birds mentioned in the list are found in the surrounding area of Hotel Eco Paraíso Xixim covering an extension of 5 km of shoreline and approximately 1 km inland reaching to the mangrove forest that borders the Ría Celestún.

Naturalist guide Alexander Dzib in collaboration with Peregrinos Bird Guides has sighted during August 2005 in Xixim a total of 53 families, 265 species and 2 subspecies of birds. Of these, 116 birds are migratory and 151 resident.

There are 6 endemic and two quasi-endemic species, totalling 8 endemisms.

The birds that appear in the following list have been reviewed and updated according to the new taxonomic order of the American Ornithologist Union (AOU) which is based in the structure and the DNA of the birds [phylogenetic listing - for example: the American vulture is related to the stork].
